FOR COMPANIES & INDIVIDUALS

EXPATRIATE COACHING

As an experienced expat coach, I support you and your loved ones in the preparation, during the assignment and in the context of the return to the home country.

No coaching runs according to a pattern, individual needs are too different for that. Nevertheless, we use a structured coaching approach and proven tools.

An expat is sitting in a meeting with two colleagues and everyone is laughing.

SUCCESSFUL FOREIGN ASSIGNMENT IN 3 STEPS

PHASES OF EXPAT COACHING

Coaching for foreign assignments is usually part of the complex preparation of employees for their assignment abroad. The process is usually initiated by the HR department or supervisors. Ideally, expat coaching should accompany before and during the assignment, as well as just before and in the initial period after return (Repatriation-Coaching).

Before the assignment, expats and international employees are mostly interested in:

  • Mentality differences
  • Dos and Don'ts
  • Feedback and critique
  • Dealing with time, hierarchies, structures
  • Communication specifics
  • Potential misunderstandings
  • Local history

For example, some of the biggest issues faced by international staff during foreign assignmemt include:

  • Difficulties in adapting to the local culture
  • Difficult communication with locals
  • Not being welcome
  • Working with passive resistance
  • The team does not follow as needed
  • Poor start makes cooperation hard
  • Lack of social contacts

As the mission draws to a close, other issues become important just before and during the return

  • Reintegration into the team
  • Networking and presence
  • Establishing new relationships
  • Identifying obstacles of return
  • New tasks
  • Target position
  • Considering vacancies
  • Preventing and reducing stress
